BAH rate lookup

The published monthly Basic Allowance for Housing rate for any U.S. duty-station ZIP code: all 338 military housing areas, all 24 pay grades, both dependent statuses.

An Air Force service member plans a family move with his spouse and child at their kitchen table.

Duty station, not home address

BAH is set by your permanent duty station’s ZIP code, which maps to one of 338 Military Housing Areas (MHAs). Type a ZIP below and the matching housing area appears before you even submit. The whole lookup runs in your browser against locally stored DoD data; nothing you enter is sent anywhere.

Your permanent duty station, not your mailing address.

How this lookup works

Duty-station ZIP codes map to Military Housing Areas (MHAs); BAH rates are published per MHA, per pay grade, per year, not per ZIP code directly. This tool resolves your ZIP against the official 2026 ZIP-to-MHA table (about 41,000 ZIP codes), then reads that MHA’s published rate for the grade you chose. Both the with-dependents and without-dependents rates are always shown. If a ZIP, year, or grade is not covered by a locally stored dataset, the tool says so plainly and links to the official DoD lookup rather than estimating.

Rate years and special schedules covered

The Year selector carries every schedule on the official DoD lookup, including both distinct 2022 entries (the standard 2022 table and the October 2022 increased-rate schedule) and the location-specific 2026 Abilene temporary increase, which only applies within its officially covered area. The standard 2026 schedule is fully loaded locally; O-8 and above receive the O-7 rate, which the form groups as “O-7/O-7+.”
